Meyer Steps Down at Florida

Citing health concerns, Florida head football coach Urban Meyer has announced that he is retiring.

That's pretty sobering news for a fan base that has been riding pretty high for the last three (plus) years. And, really, it should serve as sobering news to any college football fan. Rivalries aside, Urban Meyer is a great football coach, and him having to retire because of health issues, especially at his age, is a terrible thing.

Our collective hearts here at the BSR go out to Coach Meyer, his family, and the entire Florida family.

Very unfortunate for UF. I hope Meyer will be ok. They will take a hit this year in recruiting. Maybe that will benefit us in some way. We shall see...

Sorry to see Urban go. When he was on the other side of the field, I hated him. As a coach I respect him. I enjoying playing against and having the opportunity to beat the best. There's a great deal of gratification in that. I hope UF gets somebody that will keep their program strong. There's nothing better than having a classic rivalry like the UF - Bama meetings in the SECCG. Nothing better for the sport.Other than that Roll Tide !!

Ok, this comment is said knowing that none of Meyer's illnesses are life threatening.

That being said, there is a lot of irony in this whole story...

Does anyone else find it ironic that Saban whooped Florida so bad it gave Meyer a mild case of "heart ache"? According to everything I read, he never had any heart problems before the SEC champ game...So that must mean that Nicks will to win literally almost gave Urban a heart attack! Thats one hell of a game plan...lol

And will anyone really argue when I say that if Fla wins the SEC champ game, this is never even an issue. I have a hard time feeling sorry for a guy who reinstates Tebow after a serious concussion two weeks later just to win a football game. Not to mention how he consistently let guys off the hook instead of teaching them proper lessons on being mature adults... (Spikes, Dunlap, etc).

I guess the lesson is: If you sign your name to a job that pays $4 Mill a year, you'd better expect to be stressed out. Its no secret, that is a whole lot of money a lot is expected of you...I hope he gets better and everything, but I could care less about the Gators. RTR

Saban made his ass quit, now they are in damage control mode to save as many recruits as possible. Don't worry Tiggers, I ain't going nowhere. It'll take at lease 2 more beatings for Saban to make me quit!
