Earlier in the week, I answered some questions for Kurt at WarBlogle.com. He was kind enough to return the favor. The delay in getting this up is all mine - Kurt was prompt, and mostly polite, as you can see after the jump.
1. Do you have a War Cam Eagle shirt? Does it pain your soul to see Auburn go "All In" on just this one player?
No, nor do I really like the "All In" campaign. Too many other teams use it, and it's just not unique to Auburn. But in terms of going "All In" for Cam, I look at Auburn as a team, and while I do love Cam and support him in every way possible, the signs, shirts, and anything else with a #2 on them have always seemed to fuel the "one man team" argument. I know he's the best player by far, and he's a Heisman candidate so he's going to get the majority of the publicity, but in general the entire team is amazing and he just makes it better.
I believe whole-heartedly that if they continue to play them then they know and have been told that he is in the clear. Gene Chizik and Jay Jacobs would not ruin the Auburn program and the careers of the other players just on the hope that Cam is eligible. They know way more than the public and the media knows, and right now, for all they know, Cam is eligible.
3. What about the Tide has you the most worried?
Playing in Tuscaloosa is my number one worry for this game. If it was in Auburn, I would predict an Auburn win with no doubt in my mind. However, the game is not in Auburn, so the Tigers have to deal with the loudest opposing crowd they've played against all season. When a team is playing in front of their home crowd in a rivalry game, anything can they happen, and that worries me.
4. Who are the relative unknowns to watch this week for the Tigers?
Sophomore wide receiver Emory Blake is going to be a stud. While Darvin Adams is the go-to guy for an easy 15-yard pick-up. Blake takes that 15-yard pass and turns it into a 30-yard gain. He has the ability to get away from the defender, make a tough catch, and move the ball down the field like no other Auburn receiver, aside from maybe Terrell Zachary. You know, the guy who took that reverse and ran through the Alabama secondary on the first drive of last year's Iron Bowl? Blake will be the man in the Auburn receiving corps pretty soon.
Best case: Auburn scores first, silences the crowd, and never looks back.
Worst case: Auburn gets stopped on their first few drives, and can't stop Alabama on their first few drives. While Auburn has come from behind many times this season, coming from behind in the Iron Bowl at Bryant-Denny would be a different challenge altogether.
Well I am the ultimate optimist, so I see Auburn going 14-0 and beating Oregon or Boise State in the National Championship game. Oh, and Cam wins the Heisman and Mississippi State gets the death penalty.
8. Where do you see Alabama ending up this season?
Favorite player: Corey Grant, he's from my hometown, and I hear he's transferring to Auburn next year.
Favorite coach: Bill Curry. After seeing him speak a few times during the Alabama/Georgia State game, he just seemed like a really down-to-Earth, hard-nosed coach, who keeps a book of quotes in his back pocket. There's also the obvious reason as well.
